Day 1 (Prices and conditions
at bottom of page) Leaving Edinburgh, we head westwards towards Loch
Lomond ("you'll take the high road") before driving along
the Argyll coastline (the ancient kingdom of Dalriada) - taste
a fresh oyster at Loch Fyne, visit the mysterious Standing Stones
of Kilmartin Glen and climb to the top of Dunadd Fort to find out
how our nation was defined. Beautiful scenery, fresh air and fascinating
stories - what better way to prepare for a lively night in bonny
Oban - our home for tonight.
Day 2
Today we head deeper into the
magical Highlands through some spectacular north west coast
scenery with amazing stops and weather permitting walks in
magnificent Glencoe (hear the tragic tale of the MacDonald's
Massacre) and/or Glen Nevis. Then we head to Eilean Donan Castle
before making our way over the bridge to the magical Isle of
Skye. Then some nice short walks and a legend or two before
heading up to Edinbane at the north of the island for some
live music in hostel/pub.

Day 3
 |
Making our way down the island
today you will take in more of the wonders the island has
to offer - the Quiraing, the Old man of Storr, Kilt Rock,
Portree - there are legends around every corner. We then
bid a fond farewell and cross the bridge back to the mainland.
Our home tonight is the lively capital of the highlands -
Inverness. |
Day 4
Time for a spot of
monster hunting on Loch Ness this morning then it is an emotional
visit to tragic Culloden battlefield (Bonnie Prince Charlie's
last stand). As we head southwards we will enjoy some nice
forest walks and pop into Scotland's smallest distillery Edradour
- then a short hop to spend the next two nights in real style
- in a 15th century castle near Stirling!
|
 |
Day 5
 |
With
a bit of time to explore the castle this morning we
then head off on a loop around the "Trossachs" (or
Braveheart country if you choose) - Stirling (hear
the history of Wallace and Bruce) Doune Castle, Rob
Roy Macgregors land, waterfalls and short walks galore
- then back to reflect on the day in your castle with
a wee dram.
|
Day 6
Our last day together - but still
a full day - we drive straight out to St. Andrews with plenty
of time for you to explore this ancient religious capital -
walk the Old Course, run down the beach (Chariots of Fire!),
visit the castle and cathedral or do a bit of shopping - the
choice is yours. After lunch we make our way back to Edinburgh
along the Fife coastline - fishing villages, tales of witches
and the grand Forth bridges - and then back to the capital!
